(More customer reviews)The gems are basically two stud like gems held back to back with a tiny spring connecting them. That's where the hair goes. If your kids have straight hair, they will slide out of the hair pretty easily, but if they have curls I would not recommend this item as it is almost impossible to get them out without ripping hair out.
My girls (9 and 11) used them for a few days around the house after Christmas, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly.
