L'Oreal's Excellence Blonde Supreme colors are different from many blonde hair colors in that they use a 30-volume developer, rather than the 20-volume developer in most home hair colors. As a result, they can lighten your hair one shade more than other one-step hair colors.
If you have light to medium brown hair (level 5 or 6) any of the Blonde Supreme colors will take you to a real blonde shade--not just a very light brown. (This is also true of L'Oreal's Preference "Les Blondissimes" colors.)
For myself, I like Excellence Blonde Supreme 01, which they call "Extra Light Ash Blonde." My natural hair is about a level 5.5, and the ash tones work well with my coloring (I am of Irish descent, with green eyes). The color I get is both a bit darker and more pronouncedly "ashy" than the more expensive Preference "Les Blondissimes" LB01, which also claims to be an ash blonde shade. I find Excellence's creme-style hair color is somewhat easier to apply than Preference, as well.
If one of these 30 volume shades (Excellence 01 or 02, or Preference LB01, LB02, or LB03 won't take you as blonde as you want to go, your only choice is to bleach your hair very light, and then tone with something like Clairol's Natural Instincts. But, if your hair is medium brown to dark blonde, and you want maximum lightening in one step, this is the way to go
