I had been "natural" for so long, but my hair does not respond well, or, I also think I was just not taking care of it properly - but in any case, my hair needs attention either way, and I wanted a "smoother" look. Mind you, I have seen so many ladies with natural hair, and so beautiful and healthy, so that is awesome. I decided to give up on beauticians that have no clue on how to apply relaxer, and after 2 and a half months of serious research on roller sets, applying relaxer, etc., etc., I made a big investment in "salon-grade" products, as well as this relaxer (basically, practically became MY OWN PERSONAL beautician). Relaxers had been improperly applied to my hair by LICENSED COSMETOLOGISTS for so many years between my age of, perhaps 14 and 25 - long time, I know - and the last time I had a weave put in (after between the ages of 18 and 25, another beautician putting in weave in my hair incorrectly so much it was "dry-rotting" my hair), I completely went "cold turkey" on going to the beauty shop. SO, I decided if I was going to apply my own relaxer, I would try to find a good product, and for a reasonable price. I saw a youtube.com video on this product, and how to properly apply it if doing it on one's own at home. I did it last night, and had no burning, no scars, no nightmare issues. Product is great. No mixing, just used right out of the jar. I based my scalp properly first, and ears, and nape of neck, and hairline, then went for it! I am very pleased - especially since I have not had a relaxer on my hair in 2 years, and also since this is my first time ever self-applying a relaxer to my own hair. My hair is very strong, and because it had been natural for some time, it could have stayed on about 10 more minutes, but I wanted to be on the safe side so I rinsed it out, of course. Once I truly become acclimated to my own head, which should happen soon here, I won't have one strand of underprocessed hair. I processed just fine, and the results are smooth and soothing, and like I said, I personally had no burning. I did a significant protein treatment on my hair 7 days before applying this relaxer, to prepare it for this treatment on today - I used Aphogee for the protein treatment (two-step protein treatment, with the Aphogee balance moisturizer, leave-in, and green tea resctructurizer, etc. - AWESOME, by the way, and my hair loved it!). So, the protein treatment also perhaps played a huge role in getting my hair strong, and prepared for the relaxer, plus basing the hair is so important - and never once did any LICENSED beautician ever base my hair - unbelievable, I know - and this is why, at age 30, looking back as far as age 8 or 9 or 10, I really see the idiocy in the stylists I have been to, and that I have seen friends and family go to. Educate yourself ladies, and understand you can do the EXACT same procedures at home the beauticians do. Mind you, I am 30, and really just now learning my own hair - so I have no "style" on it today - I just brushed it back into a little "bun", and it's plain and simple - but you don't understand how good I feel from not only this product, but also just from doing it MYSELF - my own hands, my own space at home, my privacy! Purchase this, and feel good, it's a good product, and there are other relaxers out there that do the trick, I have researched, but for this to be my first choice, it was/is a good one!
