(More customer reviews)I like to experiment about with hair. Years ago I played with numerous chemical dyes before switching to henna. I loved the henna - but the permanency and burgundy build up finally made me step away from it. Then I heard about Elumen and decided to give it a shot. Several former henna users reported a similar shine from Elumen that they'd gotten from henna, but without the "permanent till you cut" effect that comes with henna.
I tried a few different mixes on myself, experimenting with toning out some of the red from henna, and adding copper red tones to the undyed new growth to blend the new growth with the previously henna colored length. I had really good results with both experiments. My friend liked how it came out as well, and asked me to do her hair.
I wound up lightening her very dark brown hair 1-2 levels using goldwell silk lift (ammonia free bleach and 30 volume peroxide). With pre-treating her hair using coconut oil, there was no visible/feelable damage.
Next I proceeded with the Elumen (using the prepare liquid first, before applying a mix of KK, BG8, and Clear for a result of a really gorgeous, naturally looking dark red. She absolutely loved it - the color, shine, and condition. And so did her coworkers! One of them has now asked her to ask me if I'd be willing to do her hair as well :-)
All in all, I'm very pleased! This is the best coloring product I've found outside of 100% henna - and in many ways this is even better as it allows you the option of hundreds of different colors (by mixing), and it's easily reversible, and non damaging (the coloring part - if you lighten, that will probably cause some damage).
