(More customer reviews)My wife hates preservatives and I had been using American Crew's Fiber (which is a great product but has 5 different types of parabens...) styling product so se went on a mission to find a more natural solution to my styling problems. She came across Woody's and ordered a free sample from the website. With that we got a couple of brochures, samples, and what appears to be a personal message from the 'Woody", which is always great. So we went ahead and bought the Headwax.
First off, it smells amazing. Everyone has their own scent preferences, but this is darn near perfect for me. It a great contrast to AC's Fiber, which also smells great but has more of a lemony. clean smell. Woody's Headwax smells like a freshly baked cookie in the middle of a forest in the middle of summer. I know that's a bit odd, but it works. I'll open up the jar just to smell it sometimes.
Its hold is about the same as AC's Fiber, which is great. It also has the matte look. I have noticed that if you put too much of it into your hair it can look greasy, but this is the case with most all styling products, is it not? Besides, I walk a fine line with my hair length. It's about 4-5 inches long and I use the Headwax to sweep it straight back.
The only downside of the product (and the only reason it got 4 stars), and the only thing that American Crew Fiber has over it is in its application. This stuff is hard to work into your hands enough to actually get into your hair. It's very water soluble, which is great come shampoo time, but difficult during application time. To get it worked into a nice coating on your hands you need to 1) Make sure your hair is damp 2) Put a few drips of water in you hand with the Headwax 3) RUB RUB RUB RUB RUB RUB until it starts to break down 4) Add a few more drops when it starts to get dry 5) Hopefully within 5 minutes you'll have it ready to work into your hair. Don't over water it or it'll get a bit too thin.
Other than the application this is a tremendously great product that will stay in my regimen for years to come. Great job Woody!
