It does have a scent, but it's tolerable especially if you use it the night before (and it's better than smelling Glover's mange). It is a pomade so a little goes a long way. However, when there was a lice outbreak in school, I immediately reached for this and herbal oils like Amla and Brahmi and Shikakai to avoid contamination. I read somewhere that lice dislike oils and pomades. It works!
