(More customer reviews)This is your typical powdered henna, finely ground to be mixed smoothly with an equal amount of boiling water to form a thin paste. You apply the product to your hair (be certain to wear gloves!) with your fingers or a spatula. Wrap your hair in plastic wrap or one of those thin, transparent plastic hairdressing caps, and apply heat. A hair dryer or sunlight work very well. This process takes several hours - light hair maybe three, darker hair maybe as long as five to six hours - so have your entertainment ready ahead of time. Rinse your hair with cool water.
Do not apply hair styling products and I suggest not brushing your hair too much. This is because you are coating the outside of the hair, not impregnating it with a chemical and any abrasion will cause the coating to come off faster.
I have a mix of dark brown and grayish/white hair and I waited three hours before rinsing out the solution and I did not apply any heat. On the dark hairs I noticed no coloring change at all. On the light hairs the color was a lovely blonde shade, not at all reddish or coppery in hue and the effect lasted approximately one week.
The longer you leave the product on, applying heat, the coarseness of your hair and the color of your hair will all be factors in the outcome of the product's color. Although I was hoping for copper, the blonde is very nice and I am continuing to use the product.
This is an environmentally friendly product that has been used for millenia and is a invaluable alternative to hair dyes. The wide-mouth of the container is good for storing small items: paper clips, buttons, rubber bands, seeds, etc., which contrasts with the dye bottles and applicators that cannot be recycled and put harmful chemicals in the landfills.
If you are a long-time hair dye user (like me!), this product will definitely alter your habits, make you feel good about yourself and betters our world.
